A 55-gallon steel drum, part by part.
The most common container in American industry, and the one we ship the most of. Here is what's in it.
Cold-rolled carbon steel body
Eighteen-gauge sheet, welded down the seam and phosphatized before paint. It holds 55 US gallons, stands 34½ inches tall, and weighs about 39 pounds empty.
Two rolling hoops
Swedged into the shell rather than welded on. They stiffen the body, give a drum truck something to grip, and keep the sidewall off the concrete when it rolls.
Bungs, 2-inch and ¾-inch
A 2-inch NPT opening for filling and pumping, a ¾-inch for venting. Tri-Sure plugs with EPDM gaskets, torqued to 20 foot-pounds before they leave the plant.
Or an open head
A removable cover with a gasket and a 12-gauge bolt ring, for solids, sludges, and anything you'll be scooping out. Same body, same testing.
The mark
Every drum carries its UN code. 1A1/X1.8/300 reads: steel, closed head, Packing Group I liquids up to 1.8 specific gravity, tested to 300 kPa. It's embossed on the head and printed on the sidewall.

Drums and totes ship LTL on pallets we build and wrap ourselves. Enter a ZIP for typical transit time from our dock; the rate is quoted with your order. Pails, plugs, and parts go UPS Ground.
The warehouse
Stocked in Taylor, Texas.
50,000 square feet at 204 S Edmond St, off Highway 79, Taylor, TX — thirty-five miles northeast of Austin. Dock doors for 53-foot trailers, a yard for staging IBCs, and a crew that has palletized more drums than it cares to count. Orders placed by 2 p.m. Central on a business day ship the same day.
